1 in custody after search near Grand Rapids

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A suspect was taken into custody Sunday night following a search northeast of Grand Rapids.

The search was underway near the intersection of 5 Mile Road and the East Beltline in Plainfield Township.

Deputies on the scene said the suspect led authorities on a brief car chase around 8 p.m. and then took off on foot. Dogs were brought into try to track him. He was ultimately found and taken into custody around 9:45 p.m.

It’s not yet clear what started the chase or what charges the suspect may face.

A stretch of 5 Mile was blocked off while the search was underway, but it was preparing to reopen shortly before 10 p.m.
