Loved ones remember man killed in Kzoo as ‘kind’

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Balloons marked the spot where a man was shot and killed in Kalamazoo the Wednesday evening.

The man killed was Victor Davis, 52, loved ones told News 8 and police confirmed.

“It crushed me,” Nicole Wagner, friend of Davis, said. “I paced the house and was like you know, asking God, ‘Is this happening? Did this truly happen?’”

Police said Davis was murdered in the parking lot of Fish Express on Riverview Drive near Hotop Avenue. Authorities said Davis was shot several times and died after being taken to the hospital.

The gunman, according to investigators, is still on the run.

“We just hope and pray that whoever did it turns themselves in or gets caught before another mother loses a child,” Wagner said.

According to Wagner, Davis leaves behind a little girl, who she says will carry on his legacy and define his time on earth.

“She’s a beautiful, smart little girl,” Wagner said. “She had me wrapped around her pinkie finger the times that we hung out.”

While Wednesday night forever changed the landscape of their friendship, Wagner said it’s Davis’ personality that will comfort her in his absence.

“He was generous, he was kind, he was caring, he was all around a really good guy,” she said.

Police are still looking for the shooter, who ran off. Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 269.337.8139 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
