KDPS: Stolen car found in Kalamazoo River

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities in Kalamazoo are investigating after a car was found in the Kalamazoo River Tuesday.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Chief Karianne Thomas said a stolen car was found in the river at Mayors’ Riverfront Park in the city’s Edison neighborhood.

Police said no one was inside the car.

Officers say the caller had noticed the roof of the car in the water just before 10 a.m., but no one saw the vehicle go into the river. It’s unknown how long the car had been there, police say.

The vehicle was reported stolen early Tuesday morning. The car was pulled out of the water, police say.

Officers say there are no suspects at this time.

The entrance to the park was closed as authorities investigated, but it has since reopened.
