The woman was found face down in the snow, dead, in the lonely hours of a December morning.
Almost 2½ years later, a Garden City man has been charged with first-degree murder in her death.
Lawrence Paul Mills III, 32, was arrested Friday, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. They accuse him of striking the 59-year-old Detroit woman deliberately with his car.
Mills was arraigned Sunday in 34th District Court in Romulus and remanded to jail. Prosecutors are declining to give the victim’s name until Mills’ preliminary examination and probable-cause hearing.
She was found around 3:45 a.m. on Dec. 13, 2017, between the street and the sidewalk on Campbell near Anthon Street in southwest Detroit. She wore black pants and a black jacket.
Reports at the time said a fanny pack and wallet were found less than a block from the body. Evidence technicians uncovered a cigarette butt covered by snow.
Speculation was that the victim had been struck elsewhere and moved. Prosecutors offered few details at the time of Mills’ arrest, but say she had multiple injuries.
