GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was run over by a tractor and killed south of Grand Rapids Monday evening, authorities say.
It happened around 8:45 p.m. in a field near the intersection of 84th Street and Breton Avenue in rural Gaines Township.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Department said first responders were called to the scene on a report of a tractor doing donuts in the field. When they arrived, they found the tractor still moving and a man lying on the ground. He had been run over.
Authorities don’t yet know exactly what led up to the death or precisely when it happened.
The tractor then broke away from the implement it was hauling and crashed into a fire truck, the sheriff’s office said. No one was in the fire truck at the time and no one else was hurt.
