Authorities are asking nearby Rockwood residents to evacuate or shelter in place as firefighters battle a blaze at an industrial building on Huron River Drive.

The fire was reported at the site of RJ Marshall Co., which manufactures chemicals, around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Rockwood police said. The cause is under investigation.

As a precaution, officials have closed Huron River Drive between Fort and Jefferson, police said.

Meanwhile, residents that live on the road in an approximately 1-mile area between Lamont and Truman “are being advised that you should evacuate the area,” police said on Facebook. “The Rockwood Community Center (32001 Fort St.) is open if you need somewhere to go.”

A notice issued by Monroe County Emergency Management officials also asks residents south of Woodruff, east of Interstate 75, north of Huron River and west of Jefferson to shelter in place, police said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

A hazmat team as well as firefighters from at least five agencies were on the scene at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
