Two boating collisions over the weekend in two counties killed a man on a jet ski on Lake St. Clair and prompted the rescue of another man after his yacht crashed into a seawall.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office said its boat patrol responded to a call about an injury around 7 p.m. on Lake St. Clair near the mouth of Big Muscamoot Bay. Officials said a 30-year-old man who was riding a jet ski alone died after an incident involving a boat.
A Belleville man was taken to River District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The boat driver, who fled the scene of the incident, was found near Metro Beach by the Macomb County Sheriff’s boat patrol, according to authorities.
On Sunday, a 51-year-old Detroit man was rescued by marine patrol officers after crashing his yacht into a seawall on Lake St. Clair.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said it’s Marine Division responded at 6 p.m. to the scene of the 48-foot older yacht sinking near the Jefferson Beach Marina and brought its operator, the lone occupant, to shore.
The man was transported to a medical facility for non life-threatening injuries, sheriff officials said Sunday on Twitter.
The U.S. Coast Guard and St. Clair Shores police and fire assisted.
“All boaters should be aware that the sinking vessel may remain in the area overnight as U.S. Tow boat works to remove it,” the sheriff’s office said. “Please operate safely and stay away from the area.”
