Pedestrian dies in Comstock Park crash

ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a pedestrian has died in a Kent County crash.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on Alpine Avenue between Lamoreaux Drive and Alpine Church Road in Comstock Park.

Michigan State Police Sgt. Mark Kassuea told News 8 a 42-year-old man from the Walker area was hit and killed by a vehicle while crossing the road.

The man was known to frequent local businesses on both sides of the street, Kassuea said.

“It appears that the deceased was wearing all dark clothes and (street) is not well lit,” Kassuea said. “There’s not a crosswalk. It would probably be ill advised to cross a busy roadway like this.”

Kassuea says it doesn’t appear the driver was in violation of any traffic laws, but it’s still early on in the investigation.

The driver did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, he said.

Alpine Avenue was closed for a couple of hours while authorities investigated. It has since reopened.
