NHL draft blog: Senators select Germany’s Tim Stutzle with No. 3 pick, Red Wings on the clock

Round 1 of the NHL Draft is underway with the New York Rangers taking Rimouski winger Alexis Lafreniere with the No. 1 overall pick.

With the second pick, the Los Angeles Kings selected Sudbury Wolves center Quinton Byfield.

The Ottawa Senators took Germany’s Tim Stutzle with the third overall pick.

The Red Wings picked Swedish winger Lucas Raymond with the fourth pick.

►Played the majority of 2019-20 with Frolunda in Sweden’s top pro league, totaling 4-6—10 in 33 outings

►Helped Team Sweden win bronze at the 2020 World Junior Championship with 2-2—4 in seven games

►Scored a hat trick against Russia, including the overtime winner, in the final of the 2019 Under-18 World Championship to help Sweden win gold

►In 2018-19, he recorded 13-35—48 in 37 games for Frolunda’s junior team to tie for fifth in the league in points; he also scored his first professional goal for Frolunda that season at age 16

Yzerman exposed to COVID, tests negative

Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman will participate remotely tonight and tomorrow after being exposed to an individual who tested positive for COVID-19.

Yzerman was expecting to be at Little Caesars Arena, with director of amateur scouting Kris Draper, chief amateur scout Jesse Wallin, and assistant general managers Ryan Martin and Pat Verbeek. Here’s Ted Kulfan’s story.
