Man in custody after 12-hour hostage situation in Wyoming

WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was taken into custody after holding a woman hostage in a Wyoming home for about 12 hours Tuesday.

Wyoming Department of Public Safety Capt. James Maguffee said there were two people in the home on Abbie Street SE. near Jefferson Avenue. They are believed to know one another.

The standoff started around 8:30 a.m. Around 11:30 a.m., Maguffee said the negotiations with the man were going well. The situation ended around 8:15 p.m. Police said the man surrendered peacefully.

“Turned into a long day, obviously,” Maguffee said.

Police said they remained in contact with the man inside the home throughout the day.

Earlier on Tuesday, police said they had no reason to believe guns were in play but proceeded with caution.
