Man shot, killed in southeast Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed on Grand Rapids’ southeast side Thursday night.

The Grand Rapids Police Department said around 10:30 p.m. dispatchers received several reports of gunshots in the area of Eastern Avenue SE and Oakdale Street SE.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man who was unresponsive in a vehicle. Authorities tried to revive him, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to GRPD.

The victim’s name is not being released pending family notification.

The police department noted that even though it appears the victim was shot, the Kent County Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

No suspect information was released.

Thursday night’s homicide brings the city’s total so far this year to 28 — that is more than 2018 and 2019 combined.
